On this solemn occasion, we offer our respectful homage to the beloved parents of our respectful Secretary, Shri. Shankarlalji and Smt. Sundarbai ji in whose names the college was started in 2005. I deem it my proud privilege to present the record of performance of this infant institution for this academic year 2009-10.
The college reopened after the summer vacation for the students of second & third years on 15th of June 2009 and for the first year students on 19th Of June 2009. |

Mr. Abhaya Kumar Srisrimal, Secretary of our College was conferred the RAJASTHAN SRI AWARD by the Rajasthani Association of Tamil Nadu for serving the community for over 10 years in different activities. |

Mrs.Rukmani Sundarajan, Former principal Annai Velankanni College for Women, Dr. S.R .Suman Kumari, Senior Faculty, Department of Economics, Anna Adarsh College for Women & Ms Anita , dancer of Maanada Myilada fame graced the occasion and motivated the freshers to utilize this platform to hone their skills. |

4. ADMISSION PROCESS |
| |
Our admission process is fully computerized and our management is magnanimous in giving admission to the girls of weaker sections. We confine to strict government norms in admission procedure and merit is primarily considered. |

5. ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE |
| |
Monthly Tests & Examinations are conducted which enable the students to face the University examination with confidence. Under the CBCS system of continuous assessment, out of 100 marks for a subject, 25 marks are for the internal assessment. |

The breakup of 25 marks is as follows: |

10 marks for tests & examinations 5marks for assignments and seminars and attendance. |
| |
Remedial classes & special coaching classes are conducted to help the below average students to perform better. Feedback from students is obtained periodically. Parent teachers meetings are conducted twice a year thereby facilitating the parents to know about the performance of their wards. |

STUDENT PARTICIPATION |

Our students actively & enthusiastically participated in various intercollegiate competitions held in various city colleges and brought laurels to the institution by bagging many prizes. Our college won the the winner shield at the pooncharal intercollegiate state level competitions by Mangaiyar Malar at Tanjore in fashion show and Volleyball.
In the intercollegiate cultural fest at Ethiraj college, our students won the overall Runners shield. Our students won several prizes in mehandi, face painting, hairstyling, jewellary designing, Bridal makeup, rangoli, light music, classical music, group singing, pencil sketching and group dance and various other co-curricular activities in the intercollegiate competitions held at Sri kanyaka Parameswari College, MGR Janaki College, Ethiraj college, Anna Adarsh College, Annaiveilankanni college, CTTE college, JBAS College, SDNB Vaishnav College, MCC & KRMMC.
- Ms. G.Abinaya III B.Sc (C S) was selected by the Indian Air force for short Service Commission.
- Ms.Kanyalakshmi of B.Sc Visual Communication won a cash award of Rs.10,000 for the best Television production project at Hindustan college.
- Ms.Shruthi Shambavi of II year Visual communication was selected as one of the six nominees for the final screening Test for “Study of the US Institute for students leaders for New Media” a five week intensive training in Washington D.C.
- The paper on “Women in knowledge expansion & socio cultural development” by Ms.Jalpa, Ms. Sangeetha & Ms. Subhashini of B.Com (A & F) was selected for the National Conference at GSS college and won a cash award of Rs.1,500.
- Ms.Ekta Kothari of II B.Com (CS) secured the first prize in “CHAPPAN BHOG” a competition conducted by Anna Adarsh College, where 56 items of food are prepared and offered to Lord Krishna.
- Ms. P..Pavithra Of I.B.Com (A & F) secured the first prize in the Chennai City in “Know Your Economy-Awareness kindling Test” conducted by Scientific Research Association For Economics & Finance”.
- Ms. Nusrath Mubeen of II BCA (Eve) was selected by Indira Gandhi National Open University to compere for their 21st Convocation.
- Ms.P.Jayashree of III BCA (Eve) participated & won a cash prize of Rs.15,000 in CUP KHILADI contest conducted by City Union Bank and Big FM.
- Ms. S.Aishwarya I B.Com (gen) of Evening college received the Yuvashree Kala Bharathi award from Bramachari Duruva saitanya.

STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP |

The college received SC/ST student scholarship from Government of Tamil Nadu to the tune of Rs.7,72,926 for the year 2009-2010. 253 students got benefitted from this financial assistance. 120 students received the scholarship from the management for Rs.7,93,810. 8 students received Jaigopal Garodia scholarship to the extent of Rs.8,000. 16 students received a scholarship from Rajasthani Association to the tune of Rs.16,000 & one student received a financial assistance of Rs.7,500 from Mr. Ajit Chordia. |

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES |

- Shasun Jain College organized many activities through the department Associations.
- The Dept of English conducted the intercollegiate competitions on 1st Feb 2010. Seven colleges participated in the competitions namely, On the spot Poem Composing, Literary Quiz and Pencil Sketching. SDNB Vaishnav college, KRMMC, Asan Memorial college, Anna Adarsh college, Annaiveilankanni College,Vidhya Sagar College and Shri S.S.Shasun Jain College Students.
- The department of Tamil in co-ordination with Yuvashakthi organized the Mahakavi Bharathi yar day competitions on 11.12.09. Skit, singing & poetry recitation competitions were held. On 1st February inter collegiate competitions in Tamil Crossword, one minute speech and dumb charades were conducted and cash prizes were awarded to the winners.
- The department of Hindi conducted intercollegiate competitions & on 12th of February 2010 in which Nine colleges took part and the overall shield was won by SDNB Vaishnav college.
- The department of Computer Science & Applications conducted ITBUZZ 2009, intercollegiate competition in which Five colleges participated and the overall winners were Gurunanak college.
- The department of Commerce & Business Administration conducted SHASUN COBAA, intercollegiate competition in which eight colleges participated and the overall winners were Anna Adarsh college for women.
- The dept of Visual communication in co-ordination with Photographic Society of Madras, is regularly conducting training programmes for the students in AD, Fashion, Macro, Nature & Wildlife photography.
- The department of Jainology Conducted a seminar on 12th March 2010.

INTER COLLEGIATE CULTURALS – SHREYAS 2009 |

The inaugural function of Shreyas 2009, the intercollegiate Cultural Fest was celebrated in a grand manner on 18th & 19th September 2009. The chief guest Mr.Shiva of Radio Mirichi fame & Mr. Shanker Ganesh, Music Director inaugurated the fest and gave inspiring speeches. Students from 24 colleges participated in all the events. The overall shield was won by JBAS college. |

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION |

Sports & games are a part & parcel of our curriculum. Fifteen sports activities take place on the campus every day. Ten part–time coaches have been appointed for training the students to excel in all the events. Eight of our students were selected for Inter zonal competitions this year for Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Cricket & Hockey. Ms. L.Janani II B.Com (gen) got selected in senior state level volley ball tournament. Ms. Nagalakshmi of III B.Com (A & F) & Ms.C. Vaishnavi III B.Sc (C.S) won first prize in the District level Silambum tournament held at Villupuram. Our college won the runner up throphy in Indo-Srilanka Vs. Indian National Level Volley Ball tournament.
Our college rugby team won the third place in the State Level Rugby match held at YMCA, Nandanam. Seven students were selected to represent the National Level Rugby Tournament to be held at Delhi in the end of March 2010. Ms. Abinaya II B.Com (Gen) got the University Blue to represent University of Madras team for Kabaddi .Our Annual sports day was held on 6th February 2010 in our college premises. Mr. Chandra sekhar, Superintendent, Central excise & Customs, declared the sports meet open. Eleven display events & three dance performances were presented. Mrs. Indu, Indian table tennis player & Dr.M.S.Nagarajan, Manager of sports, special Olympics, Asia Pacific Region gave away the prizes to the winners. The overall throphy was won by the Arts group and the individual championship was won by Ms.S.Divyalakshmi of I.B.Sc Vis com. |

RESEARCH CENTRE AT THE COLLEGE |

The management of the college established a Research Centre in December 2009, with Dr. D.Amarchand as the Director in charge of the centre. The centre has been entrusted with supporting several activities which may eventually make most of the teachers qualified researchers and continue to give a quality dimension to their work. The centre will help to develop additional facilities and also help in guiding the teachers in fulfilling the requirements for registering for research qualifications at various Universities and publishing their papers. Assistance in reviewing the work in different subject areas by experts will also be arranged. It also organizes discussion meetings and proposes to conduct brain storming sessions, workshops, seminars, guest lectures on carefully chosen themes that may train the researcher. On 5th & 6th of March 2010 the centre had organized a workshop on Stock Exchange Operations, Online trading and the Investor. The resource persons were from the industry with years of vast experience on the topic of the workshop. The subject was in line with the Government’s Efforts to develop a new financial city in Chennai.
In this process, the centre will aim at making the college a centre of excellence , the benefits of which will be passed on to the students and the society. |

LIBRARY DAY CELEBRATIONS |

Library day was jointly celebrated by our college & TamilNadu Library Association on 12th August 2009. Dr.N.Vaithianathan, the Vice Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University was the chief guest. A guest lecture on Soft Skills by Mr.Aaron Benesh, Vice Consul, U.S Consulate General was organized on 28th January2010. SIFE (Student In Free Enterprise) |

SIFE, an International non- profit Organisation that works with leaders in business and higher education to mobilize the students to make a difference in their communities while developing their skills to become socially responsible business leaders. Shasun SIFE team started functioning in the year 2009 with twenty students and with one staff co-ordinator, Ms. J.Nithya. Ms. J. Nithya attended a three day National level SIFE programme at Mumbai from 4th to 6th of July 2009.
The first venture Navarathna, training in jewellary making had the motive of
helping the transgenders to earn their livelihood in a decent & independent way.
The SIFE team identified 15 transgenders and with the initial amount of
Rs.10,000 given by the management of our college started the project.

B.Sc (C.S) imparted training to the transgenders for about a month. The earnest efforts taken by the active members of the SIFE enabled our institution to submit a proposal of the NAVRATHNA project to the Govt. of TamilNadu and received a sum of Rs.1,68,300 from the Deputy Chief Minister Thiru. M.K.Stalin. The transgenders were given an opportunity to show their talent at Rani Meiyyammai hall and Island grounds. The team has also launched the second project “Snacks Corner” which targeted on destitute women. The destitutes were trained to make eggless pastry and biscuits by Mrs. Rajeswari, a professional trainer in cooking & baking with the coordination of Ms. Ajeetha Mary staff of our college. An appeal for a place to market the products was made to the Mayor. The motive of the SIFE programmes is to inculcate the concept of entrepreneurship in the minds of the students & the staff. |

The nonprofit National Entrepreneurship Network India’s largest & most dynamic community of new & future high growth entrepreneurs have 70,000 members in 30 cities and partners with over 470 top-tier academic institutes in India to develop vibrant entrepreneurship ecosystems on campus. The staff coordinators Ms.Pooja Solanki & Ms.B.Kavitha attended a 5 day Foundation course at Bangalore from 15th to 19th July2009. The E-club of our college was inaugurated on 2nd of September 2009. An awareness programme was conducted by the Entrepreneurship Training Institute for the final year students to encourage them to become entrepreneurs. On 12th of December,2009, Ms. Pooja Solanki (NEN Coordinator) and Ms. Jaya Sharma (III B.Com (A & F ) attended “Stree Shakti”-Women entrepreneur’s workshop at Mumbai. During the inter collegiate cultural fest-Shreyas 2010, seven E-leaders put up stalls and sold chaat items & snacks. Ms.Niveditha , Ms. Deepika and Ms. Kavitha of II BCA attended the e-leader workshop at Stella Maris College. Students were instructed to write business plan during the e-week in February 2010. The club is sure to produce a few entrepreneurs in the years to come. |

With the lofty intention of inculcating awareness about consumerism in the young minds, the consumer club was inaugurated on 19th February 2010 by Mr. Balakrishnan, Commissioner of Civil Supplies & Consumer Protection Wing. Mrs.V.Chitra, Mrs. Vijayalakshmi ,the staff coordinators of the club & Ms. Subhashini III B.Com (A & F)and Ms. Aparna (III BBA) attended a workshop on “Sustainable Consumption” at Queen Mary’s College. The World Consumer Rights Day was observed in our college on 15th March 2010. On that day the Directorate of Marketing & Inspection, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, Chennai organized a symposium cum Agmark exhibition. Inaugural address was given by Mr.K.M.Ravindran, Additional Director General, Press Information Bureau, Ministry of Information & Broad Casting & special address was given by Mr. S.Velayutham, Joint Director, Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Marketing & Agri.Business. Our students participated & won cash prizes in the quiz programme organized by them. |

ROTARACT CLUB |

After the solemn installation of the Rotaract club on 30th July 2009, when many eminent Rotarians graced the occasion, the club was very vibrant with lot of activities. In the month of July ‘09 the rotarians adopted a government school and the notebooks and stationery were donated to the school children for the community service project. On 11th of August 09, the club conducted an awareness campaign about the dreadful disease “Swine Flu”. Pamphlets were distributed and PPT presentations was also made to all the students of the college. On 12th August 2009, a blood donation camp was jointly conducted in coordination with NSS, Leo and Red Cross clubs of our college, which was organized by Lions Club , Meenambakkam. Nearly 200 students donated blood, out of which 75 were Rotarians. On 2nd December 2009, the club, jointly with scope International conducted a HIV awareness campaign in T.Nagar. ON 19TH December 2009, an orientation programme was conducted to our green rotaractors by rotaractors from District 3230. The club along with Rotaract club of SDNB Vaishnav college & Chennai club organized the most awaited project for the year Mann – Vasanai –Gramia Manam, on 15th & 16th of January 2010 at “Adhanur” village near Guduvanchery. Pongal was celebrated traditionally and uniforms & stationery items were distributed to the corporation school children of that village.
On 15th of February 2010 a jute awareness campaign was held in Rippon Building & the participants came to know the purpose of jute. On 15th of February 2010, a dental check was organized by A,M. Dental Foundation in the college premises. During the district installation Star Performer Award was won by Ms.S.Prashanthini & Ms.M.Padmaja from the district. During the district Rotaract conference, a shield was given to our college for the service rendered by our students during the year 2009-10. |

Acharya Padmastananda, the chief archarya of Ramakrishna Mutt inaugurated the Yuva shakthi club on 11th of August 2009. He enlightened the audience with a thought provoking speech on Swami Vivekananda and his ideologies followed by an interactive session with the students. The student members and Sukanya III B.Sc of the club actively participated in the three day National Seminar on “Mind Tuning” held at Meenakshi Sundarajan College of engineering. |

Under the aegis of Karuna club, a trip was organized to the holy place Palithana in Gujarat from 25th December to 6th of January 2010. 42 student volunteers rendered service to the disabled and handicapped by providing them with aids like Calipers, Jaipurfoot, hearing aids, wheel chair etc. The students thoroughly enjoyed the service to the unfortunate people. |

The vibrant NSS unit of the college had conducted nearly sixteen activities for the academic year 2009-10.
- On 20th July2009, A seminar on “Life skill development with the application of Neuro Linguistic programming for the university & college students” held at University of madras was attended by our NSS volunteers.
- With the theme of maintaining good health and having a proper diet, a free fat checkup was organized by our NSS unit and Herba Health care at Shri. S.S.Shasun Jain College for women.
- On 12th of August 2009, a blood donation camp was organized at Shri. S.S.Shasun Jain College for women. The NSS volunteers participated and 200 units of blood were collected.
- On 15th of August 2009, our NSS volunteers participated in the Independence Day celebrations in the secretariat where the honourable Chief Minister Thiru M.Karunanidhi hoisted the flag. The NSS volunteers also participated in the flag hoisting by the vice-chancellor of the University of Madras.
- On 24th of August 2009, a seminar on “Tobacco and its effects” was jointly organized by NSS and University of Madras. The volunteers created an awareness about tobacco usage and it effects.
- On 28th of August 2009 a seminar on “Role of Women in Environmental protection” was held at University of Madras. Our programme officer & NSS Volunteers participated in the seminar.
- World Wide Cancer Foundation , Thirunelveli organized a “Cancer Awareness programme” on 15th of September 2009.
- Our volunteers participated in the “Chennai Marathon” the main theme of marathon was “ the joy of giving”.Our volunteers collected clothes and stationery items for charity. They went to different needy organizations and distributed the collected items.
- Our NSS volunteers took up the temple cleaning in T.Nagar during the month of September 2009.
- On 5th of December 2009, The Obesity Foundation organized a walkathon to create an awareness about obesity. Our volunteers took part in the walkathon.
- Our Volunteers took up “Temple Cleaning” in Kasi viswanath temple, T.Nagar to light lakhs of deepams. They cleaned the entire temple and washed the lamps.
- “LASIK AWARENESS”, an awareness of laser treatment for eyes, was conducted by Dr.Agarwal eye hospital for two days. Our Volunteers participated and were enlightened by the speech given by Dr. Prasaath Chowdry and Dr. Priya Desai.
- Our Volunteers took part in the March Past held on 13th December 2009, at Nehru stadium for the Athletic Meet.
- The NSS unit of the college has adopted a corporation school in T.Nagar to train the students in computer literacy.
- The NSS members collected the information about orphanages and they distributed the blankets to those orphanages through RCC Platinum Trust.
- We are proud to declare that our students and staff collected more than 2,000 books to be donated to the Arignar Anna Library at kotturpuram as per the instructions of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Madras Dr. Col.Thiruvasagam.
- On 19th December 2009, our college organized the National Day for Mentally Retarded in collaboration with Tambaram Parents Association for the Mentally Retarded, NSS of the University of Madras, Lions Club of Madras, Vallalar Service Centre & the Theosophical Order of Service. Many competitions were conducted for the mentally challenged and prizes were distributed for the winners & participants.
- The NSS conducted a special camp for a week from 2nd -8th March 2010 at Chikarayapuram, Mangadu, in which various activities like temple cleaning, Pond cleaning, free medical checkup for the village people, sports Competition for school children & Competitions for SHG women were organized. The NSS volunteers were trained in the service to the people. On the final day, a cultural programme was organized by our student volunteers for the villagers.

Protecting Environment and natural resources is the most important duty of every citizen in order to ensure a bright future. With the motto “Go Green”, our institution is taking utmost efforts in controlling the impact of rise in temperature due to global warming as green house gas effect. It promotes the afforestation and checks the pollution caused by petrol & diesel. In order to create awareness among students the following projects were successfully launched under the guidance of Ms.Chitralega, the staff coordinator.
- Creating sign boards
- Wall magazines competitions on Ecofriendly Topics.
- Adopting “Go Green” as our theme for culturals and all other activities.
- Conducting rally & seminars to promote globalization and to avoid deforestation and pollution.
- Creating awareness in the minds of the public about the evils of plastic and the significance of paper bags and the importance of tree plantation.
- Bringing a newsletter.
The Plan of Action for 2010-2011 are as follows:

The Leo Club inauguration was held on 17.7.2009. When Ln. M.G. Bohra installed the Leo members and gave an inspiring speech. Many are the projects executed effectively by the members of the Leo club as providing the elderly patients and children with tender coconut water and milk on 17th July 2009 and lunch for the cancer patients at Adyar Cancer Institute on 22nd July 2009. Traffic awareness programme was organized on 29th July2009. Shri S.Ve.Sekhar, the chief guest of the blood donation camp at our college was organized on 12th of August 2009 and 200 units of blood were collected. On 15th of August, a free eye camp at Chinmaya Nagar and a general check up at Chinmaya Medical Centre was organized. On 30th of August a free eye camp & free general checkup was organized at Koyambedu market. Participated in the marathon race on 27th September 2009 and won a cash award of Rs.15,000 for being the best college. Clothes were distributed and annadhanam was organized to the mentally retarded students at Mitra home at Anna Nagar on 29th & 30th of September 2009. On 2nd October2009, Gandhi Jayanthi day, tender coconut water was distributed to the cancer patients at Egmore. Martyr’s day was observed on 13th of February 2010 at Raj Bhavan and a free dental checkup on 15th February 2009 was conducted. |

With the lofty ambition of making our young learners attain overall development, Shasun Shakthi, the research, training and counseling cell of the college conducted many Add on courses, seminars, competitions & various aesthetic courses effectively for all the students of the college. Effective Business English for the first year students, Computer Literacy programmes for the second year students in the odd semester, Certificate courses in Managerial Skills, Brand management, Financial management, HRM, Retail marketing, Banking, German, Spanish, Tourism & Insurance in the even semester & Life skill programme for the third year students are the Add on courses conducted by the cell.
Hundred seminars were conducted by the cell of which eighty nine were student’s seminar and 11 staff seminars.
Our students showcased their aesthetic skills in KALA UTSAV at Music Academy on 22nd January 2010, when Padmashri Mrs. Sudha Raghunathan, the classical singing exponent was the chief Guest and Padmabushan Sr. V.P.Dhananjayan, the dancing expert was the Guest of Honour . The theme for KALA UTSAV being BHARATIYAM.

• The placement cell of the college is maintaining a good data base of leading companies so as to assure the placements for the students even before they leave the campus.
• All the third year students of the college actively took part in the pre-placement training programme conducted by EDIFY learning Academy.
• The pre-placement training commenced on 1st of August 2009, with a 40 hour module consisting of English & Accent training, soft skills, personality development, aptitude & interview techniques.
• On 23rd September 2009, the cell organized a seminar by INDIA TRUST titled “National Mission on Employability & Entrepreneurship Skills & Development” for all the third year students.
• On 21st October MMA screened a thought provoking movie “Miracle man” that highlighted on positive thinking, perseverance, focus in life, result oriented & crisis management.
• On 20th January 2010 WLC College GM Mr. P. Ganesh Subramaniam addressed the final year students on “Career Choice after graduation, Expectations of the corporate sector, Educational Choice after graduation”.
• On 26th January 2010, “Only Success” conducted a seminar titled “How to manage the corporate expectation”.
• The students of Visual Communication undergo a free professional training given by M/S Sony Image Works Pvt Ltd., during the weekends in animation software SILHOUTTE & SHAKE for ROTO & BOJOU for better career opportunities. |
